Fabian Fuchs, co-founder of the company and responsible for operational stuff, mostly sales and marketing was born 1986 in Berlin West and later studied Business Administration in Berlin, Paris and Frankfurt (Oder) .

Devran Sönmez, co-founder of the company and responsible for all things that have to do with administration and logistics was born in 1989, also in Berlin West, went on to study Business Administration in Berlin.

Both founders know each other from their wild fraternity days and have always had a proper passion for commercial activities, good spirits and tweed coats. Thus one could say that creating The EARL Spirit was just a matter of time for these two industrious fellas.

 

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA?

Many years ago, a relative of co-founder of  The EARL Spirit Fabian Fuchs set on writing a manuscript for a spy novel akin to a certain British secret agent. However, this fictitious spy came from the other side of the iron curtain and thus didn’t stand up for “Queen and Country” but for the “United workers of the world”.

And rather than sipping on dry Martinis, his drink of choice was a peculiar black-tea macerated wheat distillate. The story of the Russian secret agent never managed to achieve the fame of his British counterpart and instead of collecting fans around the world, the would-be novel collected dust in an attic in Berlin.

Many years later, while checking on the estate of the late relative and unachieved author, Fabian Fuchs came across the lost manuscript. And while the spirited literary outpour proved to be of little value, the agents spirituous pour-in (sorry) did even more-so.

Joined by his business partner Devran Sönmez, Fuchs began refining the recipe and developing the craftsmanship behind The EARL Spirit. In 2014 the duo produced a small test batch and received rave reviews from professional and non-professional drinkers. Thus to satisfy demand from tea-lovers and alcoholics alike, the young distillers decided to properly launch The EARL Spirit and enrich bars all around the world. Today, The EARL Spirit is produced in small batches, with a lot of craftsmanship, care and passion in the beautiful city of Berlin.

 

WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS FROM THE PROGRAM?

Being able to present The EARL Spirit at selected Metro markets is not only good business it is also a perfect way for us to gain qualified face-to-face feedback from customers from diverse backgrounds and test the appeal of our product. At the same time, we hope to gain a more profound retail experience in order to further understand the inner workings of the B2B side of the business. All in all, we hope this experience will allow us to learn a lot, maybe re-qualify and expand our initial target audience and strengthen the way we market to them.
