Please introduce yourself: What does your start-up do?

Aiolos stands for clean top quality olive oil that is produced and traded under fair conditions. As we monitor the whole production chain very closely and have trustful relations with small producers, we can maintain high standards.

Since there is a lot of poor quality olive oil in the market, we have started to build a brand that stands for genuine quality.

Our mission is to bring healthy unspoilt olive oil to demanding customers. Throughout the production process, we care about social and ecological sustainability. Our farmers do not use chemical fertilisers or pesticides, and we optimise logistics to minimise the impact on the environment.

How did you come up with an idea and concept? What inspired and motivated you to create this product?

The motivation to start this brand came up because we got to know a Greek family that produces extraordinary olive oil and found out that our friends here in Austria love it. So we tried to take it a little further and received a whole lot of overwhelming feedback on the taste. Therefore we are confident to be on the right path to bring this healthy and great product to even more people.

What is unique about your business idea and operating model?

Compared to many bigger companies, we pay more attention to quality and sustainability. That’s why we have access to some of the best olive oil Greece has to offer.

What’s truly special about the product is the taste. But that’s hard to describe 🙂

What were the most significant difficulties you had to overcome while building your startup?

One of the biggest difficulties is that we can’t convey how our product tastes. When people taste it, there’s usually some kind of an aha-moment. We turned that difficulty into a joy and started organising numerous tasting events.

Apart from that, it was quite a challenge to learn everything about the quality of olive oil and how to run a food company. There’s a lot you have to consider, and a business like this comes with great responsibility.

Where do you see yourselves and your company in 5 years?

We hope to find many more customers who will love our oil so we can make the company work in order to invest in education and social projects in Greece.

We’d love to find some Aiolos fans in Asia as well 😉

What are your expectations from the NX-FOOD programme?

We are grateful to be taken by the hand into the world of the food wholesale by the NX-FOOD programme. We hope to discover how things work in METRO stores and learn a lot about the customers that are catered here.

What are your main milestones and achievements?

In Autumn 2017 we launched a new product called “NEO The New Oil”. This cloudy olive oil of emerald green is only available during the harvest season in November and December. It is packaged in neat little pharmaceutical style bottles. People love it as a special gift for Christmas, and we enjoy going to Greece for the harvest every year.

Apart from that, we don’t have so many milestones yet.
