Please introduce yourself: What does your start-up do?

Hello 🙂 My name is Juli, 23 years old, original Berliner & in love with coffee. Crema de Café is the perfect breakfast product for foodies. The bread spread is a mix of coffee and chocolate which tastes a little like tiramisu. It provides a tart-sweet start into the day.

How did you come up with an idea and concept? What inspired and motivated you to create this product?

Haha, there is this story I always tell. When I came back from New York I had a huge brunch with family and friends. My bestie, who is a little clumsy, spilt his coffee over the table. It also landed on my Nutella bread, which I was really looking forward to eating. Since I didn’t want to throw it away, I tried the coffee-soaked Nutella bread… and it was so delicious! That’s how I came up with an idea of a coffee-chocolate mix bread spread.

What is unique about your business idea and operating model?

There is no secret to it — it’s just very very very tasty ;D




What were the most significant difficulties you had to overcome while building your start-up?

To be honest, I didn’t have big difficulties to overcome… I’d prefer to call them challenges anyway ;D I met the right people at the right time and everything worked out brilliantly. My current challenge: there is so much work to be done that I will have to hire my first employee.

Where do you see yourself and your company in 5 years?

Next to Nutella.



What are your expectations from the NX-FOOD Start-up Shelf programme?

Of course, a listing at Metro would be wonderful. Apart from that, I can’t wait to learn as much as possible from the NX-FOOD team and build a stronger connection to the food industry.

What are your main milestones and achievements?

September 2017: Idea & creating the recipe
November 2017: Pitching in front of Carsten Maschmeyer & getting a 100k investment
December 2017: Founding the company
March 2018: Launch of Crema de Café
July 2018: Listed in 78 retail stores
