Please introduce yourselves: What does your start-up do?

We are Imke (29) and Florian (30) and we are true coffee lovers. With Nightbird, we want to create an iconic liqueur brand that revolutionizes the segment of classic coffee liqueur – very sweet and rather old-fashioned. Nightbird, on the other hand, has a more balanced flavour and appeals to the younger generation with its brand. Furthermore, we are one of the first cold-brew coffee liqueur brands worldwide!

Nightbird brings along an emotion of the perfect party night, good music and dancing until dawn. THE NIGHT IS YOURS!

How did you come up with an idea and concept? What inspired and motivated you to create this product?

We have a family business that produces glass bottles mainly for the pharmaceutical industry. For a long time, we had a dream to fill the bottles with our own product. Inspired by “Liquid Cocaine” from Munich, we have worked on a concept to create a coffee liqueur brand that is at least as iconic as Jägermeister!

What is unique about your business idea and operating model?

Nightbird is produced in small batches with almost exclusively local ingredients. Furthermore, Nightbird symbolizes the worldwide cold-brew coffee trend.

What were the most significant difficulties you had to overcome while building your start-up?

Unlike in our family business, at Nightbird we had to create everything from scratch. The entire product development and assurance of consistent quality were certainly challenging. In addition, it is now important to breathe life and emotions into the brand.

Where do you see yourselves and your company in 5 years?

In five years we will see Nightbird as a world-famous liqueur brand. We don’t want to develop new products and will rather focus on making Nightbird internationally known. For this, we will certainly need a strong partner in the future.

What are your expectations from the NX-FOOD Start-up Shelf programme?

We would be very happy to get a permanent listing at METRO Cash & Carry. Beyond that, we see NX-FOOD programme as a great opportunity to gain experience and build business relationships.

What are your main milestones and achievements?

2016: Founded Nightbird
2016: Nightbird Mini 20 x 0,02l was launched on the market
2017: Nightbird 0,5l was launched on the market
