Please introduce yourselves: What does your start-up do?

We are Melissa (29) and Julian (27) from Korschenbroich. We love healthy vegan food and are crazy about jackfruit. Our vision is to make innovative, fair, healthy and vegan food without any bells and whistles. Organic quality and freedom of artificial additives belong to our values as well as the promotion of social projects. Our concern is to choose the most sustainable route in every step we take. Since May 2018 we have been supporting a non-profit educational project in the south of Sri Lanka.

Who's Jack is a great option for everyone who would like to enjoy low-calorie, high-quality natural food that can replace the taste of meat.

How did you come up with an idea and concept? What inspired and motivated you to create this product?

In 2016 we heard about jackfruit. Back then jackfruit was hard to find and it did not exist in organic quality in Germany.

During our further trips to Sri Lanka, we learnt about even more features of jackfruit and discovered that young jackfruit can be a perfect alternative to meat.

What is unique about your business idea and operating model?

The harmony between human, nature and the environment is our highest priority.

What were the most significant difficulties you had to overcome while building your start-up?

We'd rather talk about challenges at this point because building a start-up is normally characterized by challenges. We would say that the whole foundation process is shaped by many new experiences which enrich us every day.

Where do you see yourselves and your company in 5 years?

Over the next 5 years, we want to be the top supplier of different jackfruit products. We do not want to limit ourselves to just one product.

What are your expectations from the NX-FOOD Start-up Shelf programme?

We would be very happy to get a permanent listing at METRO. Beyond that, we see NX-FOOD programme as a great opportunity to gain experience and build business relationships.

October 2016: Concept development and business plan
April 2017: Founding
October 2017: Market launch of young organic jackfruit
May 2018: Listing EDEKA foodstarter
September 2018: Market launch of a new product (jackfruit snack)
October 2018: NX-FOOD Start-up Shelf
